Fire engines are a pain in the a$$.
Always harder to do then they look. You'll do fine of course 👍

Looking forward ............

1999.co.jp/eng/image/10460486 - Glam shots, instructions, and sprue sheet preview... It shows that it's more than just a basic model like the mobile arcade truck was.

@Martin. Good to know as I have a Rosenbauer Panther and a Unimog fire truck on my wishlist 🙂
@Nueling. Welcome to the show.
9 June 2019, 16:34
Neuling
Interesting! Rosenbauer is an Austrian brand.
9 June 2019, 18:51
Chris Greathouse
The Rosenbauer Panther looks like a big mean spraying machine. I love the shape of the truck.
9 June 2019, 18:59
Bob Hall
I should build this, we can put your truck in the back ! LOL It's just collecting dust on the shelf !

9 June 2019, 19:07
Chris Greathouse
lol! There are sooo many pieces for a truck this small! So many accessories and do-dads to go on.
9 June 2019, 19:17
Nathan Dempsey
Sweet! That's going to be a fun build.
9 June 2019, 19:25
Bob Hall
May the Force be with you ! LOL
9 June 2019, 19:30
Chris Greathouse
Holy Hell! Soooo maaaaaany pieces!! One cup of to-be black primered and three that are to-be white primered.
11 June 2019, 05:59
Chris Greathouse
Also, random fact... that shelf above the monitors in picture #3 has 14 of my cars, and to the left is another shelf holding 24... with 2 spaces left for the Lexus and Sambar.
11 June 2019, 06:02
Tom ...
Am I too late already? 🙂
11 June 2019, 06:35
Chris Greathouse
There's the other yellow head 😛 Howdy Tom! How's porch life treating you? And judging by the metric crap ton of little tiny multi colored pieces that still needs primer... Very much at the beginning mate 🙂
11 June 2019, 07:41
Daniel Klink
ah interesting keyboard 🙂
11 June 2019, 07:43
Bill Newcomer
When I saw the pic of the sprues full of parts, I thought it looked daunting then. Good luck!
11 June 2019, 14:23
Chris Greathouse
My plan of attack for today is to get the black primed and painted so I can get those pieces out of the way into the parts bin. Then I'm going grey to go white on the other pieces.
11 June 2019, 17:20
Chris Greathouse
All the black is done, 47 pieces in total. Letting them dry before I put them in the parts bin.
11 June 2019, 21:54
Chris Greathouse
Dechromed the chrome with good 'ol Super Clean. I hate prechromed stuff most the time because when you snip it off the sprue it leaves a nasty hole on the chrome.
11 June 2019, 23:35
Nathan Dempsey
I'm amazed at the amount of parts in that tiny fire truck.
12 June 2019, 00:11
Chris Greathouse
I know right!? I'm counting pieces for this truck.
12 June 2019, 00:16
Chris Greathouse
Have I ever said that I HATE colored plastic.. lol

Anyways Picture 6 is only two of the three cups that are turning to white primer. The back half of the pieces have had a mist coat and a real coat of grey, and the forward half has only the first mist coat. After all is grey I'll spray all with white.

I was told a while ago that when going from colored plastic to white primer that it's easier to throw in a transition coat of grey... I've done it this way a few times now... It's more work but you get a nice even white primer color instead of hint of plastic color.
12 June 2019, 02:08
Donald Dickson II
Ummmmmm, what the hell is that thing???? Ashtrays might be too much for it.😉 LOL
12 June 2019, 03:34
Chris Greathouse
Hahaha... it was too interesting to pass up. Basically it's just a high powered water compressor on a slide out rail, you attach your in and out and you're on your way to put out that ashtray fire.
12 June 2019, 03:43
Chris Greathouse
The pictures in the link at the top of the thread are really nice, They'll be my reference while I'm painting.
12 June 2019, 03:58
Chris Greathouse
Guys! Check out this neato baby fire truck! It's a Toyota Dyna fire truck... really cool looking!!!

12 June 2019, 06:46
Chris Greathouse
Donnnnnnnnnnnn..... We found your pink fire truck, you're off the hook 😛
12 June 2019, 06:52
Donald Dickson II
We had brush trucks that were bigger.😉 LOL

It was just the engine that looked pink damn it! LOL
12 June 2019, 11:10
Chris Greathouse
So far, we're up to 134 pieces and that's just the left 3 cups from picture #3. I'm priming the last cup today and adding in that piece count to the total.
12 June 2019, 21:01
Chris Greathouse
So I mist coated and coated the last cup of pieces with grey primer. There was 47 pieces again, bringing the total to 181 pieces (plus 10 or so I glued together before painting). So this little beastie has almost 200 pieces!!!
13 June 2019, 01:33
Bob Hall
DAMN !
13 June 2019, 01:34
Chris Greathouse
And then you look at the truck and go DAMN.... and all these pieces go where? lol It's like a clown car for pieces... how many can you fit in?
13 June 2019, 01:36
Bob Hall
I'll Stick with Police Cars !
13 June 2019, 01:38
Christian W
Almost 200 pieces? Unbelievable!
13 June 2019, 03:35
Andreas Koziol
Chris these rods with the clamps you used for painting are homemade or are ready to buy and if so where?
13 June 2019, 09:36
Chris Greathouse
Search for alligator clips, or hobby alligator clips, should get you where you want. Just a heads up... most of the kits that come with sticks, the sticks are flat ended... I bought a big 'ol pack of bamboo skewers and used them instead as they are pointy and stick in the styrofoam better.
13 June 2019, 16:28
Andreas Koziol
Thanks Chris, found the alligator clips! 👍
I have always used cut cotton swabs and patafix, but these are much more workable.
13 June 2019, 16:41
Chris Greathouse
I use Patafix (UHU TAC) wherever I can, I love that stuff. (I even use it for masking sometimes)... The skewers are flat on one end, making them ideal for patafix, and 8" skewers are easier to hold.
13 June 2019, 17:06
Chris Greathouse
All the pieces that I primed with a grey transition the last couple of days, are now white!
13 June 2019, 19:40
Chris Greathouse
Andreas, just be careful with clip placement so it doesn't snap closed flinging your piece to the great beyond.

Sad news, the star emblem on the nose got flung to the great beyond 🙁 (at least there's no hole, indentation, post, whatever on the piece below indicating placement, so it'll still be smooth... So there's that.)

Soooo much chrome for a fire extinguisher on wheels.. #8
14 June 2019, 19:20
Chris Greathouse
Oh man the red made me sooo nervous... I ran out near the end. I had to squirt some thinner and flow in the jar itself and mix it up so I could get the very last of it out of the jar... I made it though, barely! Lots of red!
16 June 2019, 02:02
Nathan Dempsey
Oh man I've done that before! Way to go Chris!
16 June 2019, 02:14
Donald Dickson II
I absolutely hate dealing with red. But great job sir!
16 June 2019, 14:46
Chris Greathouse
Thanks Nathan and Don! Starting to put secondary colors on as I'm going along, I think the HUGE 😛 fire deck and interior turned out well. #10
16 June 2019, 17:51
Chris Greathouse
Photo uploading isn't working I guess... I got the window framing done. Looks spiffy, I'd love to show you! I will when the uploads start working again!
17 June 2019, 20:34
Chris Greathouse
I got a little hosed up today. 😛
18 June 2019, 02:09
Chris Greathouse
I think... I think... I think I'm done with secondary colors!! There's a ton on this beastie!... Tomorrow will be clear coating in prep for decals and panel lining... I'll also be clear coating the Lexus, since that still needs to be done.... Then I'm waiting on panel line wash for both to arrive on Thursday! (You use brown wash on red paint right?)
18 June 2019, 02:37
Nathan Dempsey
You're so hosed...

I think brown would work or a super dark red.
18 June 2019, 03:31
Bill Newcomer
I'll be interested in how the panel lining goes. It looks great on Yeowoong Yoon's builds.
18 June 2019, 03:39
Chris Greathouse
Oh jeesh, comparing me to them. Gosh, I'll do my best.
18 June 2019, 04:07
Bob Hall

18 June 2019, 04:10
Chris Greathouse
I don't panel line alot because I always manage to mess up the paint job, but it looks really good. I bought the Tamiya line of line washes, and will be getting better. 😄
18 June 2019, 04:18
Tom ...
I think I'll have to get this kit just to see how so many pieces can fit into such a small space. 🙂 But in all seriousness this is the kind of model that I really love. Something unique, different and detailed.
18 June 2019, 17:58
Chris Greathouse
Almost 200 pieces into this fire extinguisher with an engine! 😄 Yesterday was all day with a paintbrush putting on more colors... Details are insane... Well worth the $35 (inc. shipping) I paid.
18 June 2019, 18:01
Chris Greathouse
And hiya Tom!!! *Waves*
18 June 2019, 18:01
Chris Greathouse
Well, I sprayed everything with gloss. I am going to wait a couple hours before wash and decals -- Good news, my panel wash supplies came in the mailbox while I was spraying these.... I call that perfect timing!
19 June 2019, 20:02
Nathan Dempsey
Nice, now it's time for lines!
19 June 2019, 20:29
Martin Oostrom
Create a beach dio. Then you can draw a line in the sand 😄
19 June 2019, 20:34
Tom ...
Ah no, a Godzilla dio! Perfect pairing.
19 June 2019, 21:04
Chris Greathouse
DAMN IT!! This is why I don't like panel lines.... I tried to wipe up the excess with Mr. Paint Remover dabbed on a paper towel... Just lightly wiping off the lining completely shredded the paint job... So I guess deal with it or strip it and redo the piece... those are my 2 options yes?
19 June 2019, 22:03
Bob Hall
Looks like there may be a purple Punch bath in it's future ?
19 June 2019, 23:49
Chris Greathouse
Damn purple punch... And I did a really good job framing those windows too 🙁

Best movie ever!
20 June 2019, 00:25
Nathan Dempsey
Arrrgggghhhh!
20 June 2019, 00:41
Chris Greathouse
Now I'm going to take some purple sticky and relax... I'm bummed about that part 🙁
20 June 2019, 00:58
Bob Hall
"Drink the Kool-Aid" Chris ! The Purple Kool-Aid ! LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
20 June 2019, 01:26
Chris Greathouse
LOL Well I'm see deja-vu I swear to god I've been here before... Did someone spike the punch? 😛
20 June 2019, 01:49
Zach Wilson
did you do your panel lines using the tamiya panel line ink wash?
20 June 2019, 01:50
Chris Greathouse
Yessir
20 June 2019, 01:52
Zach Wilson
I have never had good results with that stuff - I like to use a thinned pin wash from mig, after I've sealed the base coat in a satin varnish or at least future. One other thing you can consider is to do the panel line wash underneath the color on top of the primer - the effect is there but it's less strong. I've had it go wrong too many times not to seal each layer.
20 June 2019, 01:54
Chris Greathouse
Great advice Zach, Thank you! And I'm going to be sealing every layer, I think that is good.
20 June 2019, 02:00
Clifford Keesler
I always seal my paint before applying a wash. If I am going to use an Enamel wash, I seal my paint with a Acrylic coat, usually future. If I am using an acrylic wash or pastel wash I will seal it with either a coat of clear enamel or clear laquer. My first sealer coat is always a gloss coat, followed by any washes and weathering with oils. Then sealed with either a matt coat or satin coat, which ever is called for. I then use dry pastels and colored pencils for more weathering. My NMF always get a final gloss coat.
20 June 2019, 02:07
Chris Greathouse
I know about sealing paint with the opposite type of weathering or panel lines (acrylic seal for enamel washes, and enamel seal for acrylics). And I did do that, I sprayed Future and let it sit overnight. I must not have gotten that side as even as the others with the Future because I barely wiped it with Mr. Paint Remover and red was coming up right away. Better luck tomorrow I guess.

Thanks to both for your advice!
20 June 2019, 02:26
Donald Dickson II
I have given up on the Tamiya washes for this reason. Even with future it keeps doing that to me.
20 June 2019, 14:27
Chris Greathouse
Well that sucks 🙁 I saw several videos use Mr. Paint Remover to remove the excess line wash, and I followed and got the same stuff. What would be an appropriate wash remover for the Tamiya line washes? I got the red bottle of Testors enamel thinner, would that that work?
20 June 2019, 17:55
Chris Greathouse
Oh yeah, I don't have that stuff, but I guess I could get it if the Testors doesn't work out. Thanks for the reminder about the X20
20 June 2019, 18:33
Chris Greathouse
I started decaling and assembly of the truck minus the cab which I'm working on in the background of things... for those who can't read the decal on the engine says HEMI.
21 June 2019, 23:36
Christian W
Really!? A HEMI engine?
22 June 2019, 09:28
Chris Greathouse
It still counts if I found the decal in my extras box, right? 😛 Joking! I believe it says Subaru Clover 4. Could you imagine a HEMI on this little thing.... it would probably rip it apart 😄 😛
22 June 2019, 10:39
Christian W
I can! 😄
22 June 2019, 11:11
Clifford Keesler
Looking good Chris.
23 June 2019, 01:30
Chris Greathouse
Got the cab recought up to all the other pieces... Everything has been decal'd and clear coated... Now time to unstick everything and start building.
23 June 2019, 01:32
Chris Greathouse
@Hans, a million thank yous for pointing out my stupid mistake of using a paint remover instead of an enamel remover on the panel lines... It made the process less frustrating and works a hell of a lot better. 😄
23 June 2019, 01:35
Nathan Dempsey
Looks like it was fixed up quite nicely Chris.
23 June 2019, 02:42
Donald Dickson II
Looks good. 🙂
23 June 2019, 03:03
Chris Greathouse
By fixed up, you mean another purple punch bath and scrubbed down to the plastic, then carefully and cleanly rescribing, then careful not to flood the lines with primer, paint, and clear coat so that the line wash works like it's supposed to. Then yeah, fixed up 😛 But the cab (and it's pains) has been an excellent learning experience.
23 June 2019, 04:28

23 June 2019, 04:38
Chris Greathouse
So true.
23 June 2019, 04:40
Christian Bruer
Chris, usually I use oils for washes. To blur the wash and to remove the excess oils I recommend lighter fluid.

I used it on enamels and still use it on acrylics without sealing the paintwork before. IMHO it works perfect and gives you the best oppurtunity to controll the blurring and panel line effect.

I used some acrylic washes as well, here I used water to remove the excess wash. The advantage of oils and lighter fluid, you have much more open working time.

Cheers Christian
23 June 2019, 05:52
Nathan Dempsey
Very true Christian, plus they never go bad. I have oils from 20 years ago still going strong.
23 June 2019, 16:36
Chris Greathouse
Thank you guys for the advice, I've never used oils before, So I haven't got a clue about using it properly. And thanks for the tip about the lighter fluid.
23 June 2019, 16:41
Chris Greathouse
3.. 2.. 1.. BUILD!!!!
23 June 2019, 17:27
Chris Greathouse
Step 6/23 Done... I got wheels now 🙂
23 June 2019, 19:34
Chris Greathouse
Step 9/23 I figured I'd get a shot of the interior before I put the cab together.
23 June 2019, 20:19
Bob Hall
No Sunroof ? LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
23 June 2019, 20:27
Nathan Dempsey
Interior is looking sweet 🙂
23 June 2019, 20:57
Tom ...
Good work. Looking sweet!
23 June 2019, 21:00
R. Schroeder
nice paintjob!
23 June 2019, 21:26
Chris Greathouse
Step 12/23 Thanks guys! The Cab is now done. Next is the water pump which had 20 decals on it alone. Looks very impressive... what am I saying... I'll just build it and show you 😄
23 June 2019, 22:08
Chris Greathouse
Step 13/23 Pump it up!
23 June 2019, 22:59
Donald Dickson II
What the hell are they putting out with that thing???? LOL Nice job building it.
23 June 2019, 23:51
Chris Greathouse
Well everyone but Mr. Yeti *Looks at Nathan* thinks it may put out an ashtray fire lol... I should go to the rabbit pump site and see how much water one of these can push.
24 June 2019, 00:18
Bob Hall
Check Mate !

24 June 2019, 01:52
Chris Greathouse
So, I looked up the pump. It says 240-320 Gallons per min (910L/min - 1220L/min). Is that totally weak, or can it hold up to actual fire pumps?
24 June 2019, 02:02
Nathan Dempsey
Its a little on the low end, but the point is to get there quickly to get the fire extinguished and this little guy could probably go down the smallest street to accomplish that mission.

Our static pumps were powered by diesel engines twice as big as that Subaru and capable of pushing thousands of gallons per minute. Once a semi hit a hydrant and two of those huge pumps activated. They filled an entire retention pond to the rim in the 4 minutes it took me to get there and turn them off. Also the hydrant broke below ground so the retention pond filled because the force of water bored a giant hole underneath the pond.
24 June 2019, 02:19
Nathan Dempsey
Oh and your pump looks great by the way!😉
24 June 2019, 02:20
Donald Dickson II
To be a pumper, the pump has to be rated at 1500 GPM. That thing would be on one of our brush trucks. A SMALL brush truck. LOL
24 June 2019, 02:39
Chris Greathouse
Step 18/23 I've got most the deck done, all that's left is adding work tools and some little pieces here and there...
24 June 2019, 02:47
Chris Greathouse
It's Done!!! Here's a inverted preview to tease you until I get my booth out tomorrow 😛 😛 😛. Cheers G'night!
24 June 2019, 05:59
Chris Greathouse
Don, do you have a picture of what you are calling a " (standard/small)brush truck"? Just curious.
24 June 2019, 07:28
Donald Dickson II
bing.com/images/sear..+truck&FORM=IGRE All kinds of them there. 🙂
24 June 2019, 11:15
Chris Greathouse
Gotcha!

Sorry it's afternoon instead of morning, but I broke out the booth on this guy and snapped away.
24 June 2019, 20:05
Daniel Klink
Lovely and sweet, and lovely detailwork Congrats Chris 👍
24 June 2019, 20:05
Slavo Hazucha
They should have used one of these in Backdraft...😉
24 June 2019, 20:09
Donald Dickson II
Awwwww, it's cute! It's like a midget fire truck. LOL Looks great Chris. 🙂
24 June 2019, 20:13
Neuling
Hope this nice little guy finds an appropriate small fire!
24 June 2019, 20:19
Chris Greathouse
Thanks guys! It was a fun build with lot and lots of parts 😄
24 June 2019, 20:30
Gordon Sørensen
Great looking little truck, Chris! Whats next on your mini-build list?
24 June 2019, 20:38

Waaaaaaay back in high school, a Lamborgini Countach was my dream car. Actually still is... Looking forward to watching your build. As for your choice for trucks..Valhalla!
24 June 2019, 21:08
Martin Oostrom
Look mommy, the fire truck had a baby!! 😛
Well done Chris. Can I vote for the 'regular' FH16? I like a working mans truck!
24 June 2019, 21:12
Chris Greathouse
The Viking scares the crap out of me... A double kit mad with decals, I want to do good on it...

I think I'll go with Martin's "working mans truck" when I get to the trucks. This also scares me because trucks.
24 June 2019, 21:39
Martin Oostrom
I have the same one in white waiting 😄
24 June 2019, 21:41
Andreas Koziol
the final build looks great! 👍
24 June 2019, 21:59
Donald Dickson II
I had the extreme privilege of driving a Countach back in 84. On the Autobahn. Yeah, I almost messed my pants I was so happy.😉
24 June 2019, 22:09
Nathan Dempsey
Very nice result Chris! I can't wait to see the little van!

My vote for the bigger build is:
[img1]?v=1560201181

24 June 2019, 22:35
Chris Greathouse
Valhalla will be built... I just don't think I'm quite ready for it yet...
24 June 2019, 22:46
Chris Greathouse
Don, do you remember your top speed?
24 June 2019, 22:46
Chris Greathouse
And thank you everyone! 🙂
24 June 2019, 22:47
Bob Hall
An A+ ! Unique ! Very Nice !
24 June 2019, 22:55
Chris Greathouse
Thanks, you know me and those funky foreign cars 🙂 LOVE 'EM 😄
24 June 2019, 22:59
Bob Hall
We all have our Favorite Flavors ! HOOAH !
24 June 2019, 23:00
Donald Dickson II
Chris, in the vicinity of 150. I stopped looking at 120 because I didnt want to take my eyes off the road. But I was accelerating still at that point. LOL
25 June 2019, 00:12
Donald Dickson II
Martin, right??? Its like a Seagrave and an E-One had a torrid love affair and this was the result. LOL😉

And DUUUUDE!!!!! The Viking truck! Hell, I might break down and get one. LOL
25 June 2019, 00:18
Chris Greathouse
Is that mph or kph? Sounds like a hell of a ride either way! 😄
25 June 2019, 00:19
Donald Dickson II
MPH my friend. And it WAS. Only thing better was riding in a 15D.
25 June 2019, 00:27
Chris Greathouse
I red lined my speedometer (120) often when I had my old Ford Taurus... I know it's a piece of sh!t car, but it still got there.... And damn was it fun 🙂 I just had to watch out for the coppers, they hide in a couple spots.
25 June 2019, 00:34
Donald Dickson II
LOL I am impressed you managed that in a Taurus. Unless it was an SHO. That i would understand. LOL
25 June 2019, 00:43
Bill Newcomer
Great job on the little red fire truck Chris.
25 June 2019, 01:12
Chris Greathouse
It certainly took a long time to get to that speed. No 0-60 in 10 seconds for me lol
25 June 2019, 01:14
Greg Baker
Wow... nice work!
25 June 2019, 01:14
Chris Greathouse
Thanks Greg!
25 June 2019, 01:17
Clifford Keesler
Looks awesome. Kind of cute even. LOL.
25 June 2019, 01:25
Chris Greathouse
Thanks man!!! definitely worth the $35 and 4 weeks shipping!!! So intricate, and freaking 200 pieces! So fun!
25 June 2019, 01:28
Chris Greathouse
Oh I didn't see you Bill, Thanks!

So the High Roof Sambar and the decal crazy Hatsune Miku racer just hit the import docks in Los Angeles. Now they need to go north a couple states and hang a right on I-90 and they'll be here 😄

Found a nice build video of the regular Volvo FH16, now I just need more red paint... Project 043 -- Lamborghini Diablo VT | Album by chrisagreat (1:24) should be enough build time to order and get a shipment here.

You bought one too!?! I'm all over that build!!! Make sure to PM me when you start!

Also, shipment placed for Red X-7 for the VOLVO FH16 GLOBETROTTER XL (Italeri 3821, 1:24) and by strange coincidence the FORD GT Le Mans 2017 (Revell 85-4418, 1:24) fell into my cart at checkout 😛 😛 Another decal madness of a vehicle coming in 3-5 days 😄 😄

Oh crap... Didn't think about that! That just makes the value/complexity of the project vs. the value of the car ($20) go up. That's a good thing 😄
