Project BACK ON!
Ok, I guess the stars align quick. 😛 Stupid Papa Truck and Boss paints won't be here for 7 days... I can knock out this little 25 piece bugger in the meantime.

I guess lol... I'm blaming the high volume of holiday orders, package logistics across the US and bad weather on the East Coast. In anytime that's not winter, shipments from these guys in NC, to me in WA is only about 4 days. But they have great prices even with shipping... Most of my Vallejo and Tamiya is $2.50 - $3 a piece... and shipping is $9 no matter how many paints... shipping goes up once you get to boxed kits.
I'm currently waiting on 23 bottles of Vallejo and Tamiya and 2 bottles of Alclad Chrome, the total was only $67 shipped. 🙂

That's a great price and worth waiting for, same here with some orders. take more time during the holidays, and even with some rain the whole country stuck in traffic 😛

#2 Today, I worked on the Today and I got all the pieces of the Today primed today, because today seemed like a good day to work on the Today.

Today I worked on the Today sounds funny :-D
Nice little car. Keep it up - seven days could work to finish it before your paint arrive .

#3 Primary color on, next is to mask all the window frames (ugg masking always takes forever) and the windows themselves have a mask too.

#4 What happened? I shot a mist layer of red, waited 10 min and after the second coat, all these white marks appeared, I'm going to shoot over it with more red to solve the issue. But what did I do in the first place?

It looks like silicone to me. I would try to wet sand this places, remove the silicone and paint those parts separately. Thin layer after layer.

Silicone? Is that the release agent for moulds? If not what is it? I did soap up the pieces in warm water beforehand.

yeah, that looks like a silicone contamination on the primer. could be from all sorts of sources, a lot of furniture sprays contain silicone, as do greases. It could also be residual dust if you wet flatted the primer, or even fine dry paint dust, if the top coat was particularly thin and applied heavily the dust particles seem to separate the pigment from the medium and make holes like this.

Ok, what the hell guys.... I have yet to spray a car that isn't orange peeled 🙁
My compressor is just above the 15psi mark, I'm using a generic .03 airbrush, checked the needle and nozzle aren't damaged or bent.
For paint I usually come out with 2 parts paint, 1 part thinner, and 1 part flow. and I'm shooting around 6-7" away... Oh and 74f and 31% humidity.
What am I apparently doing wrong?
Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

Chris, I'm no expert, but at pressure that low I generally am shooting quite a bit closer to the piece than 6-7 inches. Maybe like 3-5 inches? Could be that your paint is partially drying midair, which is giving you that texture. Or I could be totally wrong, it happens. Frequently.

Hello. To avoid orange peel, try to send more paint (push the airbrush trigger further aft). The thing is that the paint must appear wet when it arrives on the model. If the paint is already dry, it will create orange peel. Btw what kind of paint are you using?

Mostly Vallejo and Tamiya X- and XF-... So I should up the psi, test moving closer, and thin the paint a bit more so it's wetter longer to hit the model... Is that kinda what I'm hearing?

#5 What is the best way to mask a window? Transferring the mask shape to tape. or whatever, how it's done.
On the car I did major mask job to hit all the window frames, side rails and both bumpers with black tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Chris picked up a great tip yesterday on You Tube for masking. Use post it notes! Sticks down to the painted surface well but can be removed without taking the paint with it. Haven't tried it yet but I will be!

Try flat color and Vallejo gloss acryllic varnish (the big 500ml bottle for $10ish) 80% Varnish 20% Deionised (distilled) water 20 drops flow improver and 10 drops vallejo retarder in a 43 ml tamiya mixing jar. I mix a whole jar and use as I need it, goes a long long way and driens nice. First coat thin tacky mist, second coat wet ish, third coat wet. Just tried that out on a speed shape, nice gloss finish, minimal orange peel. Incidentally, even professional car paint gets a light orange peel effect on the real thing, particularly if painting gloss paint direct, Flat & Laquer gives a smoother finish.

I can't quite visualize that process James.
I've decided to tape the inside of the window and try and free draw the the shaded outline with a pen and cleanly cut and place it back in place. Saw a video with this process.

#6 Car and window trim are done. Kind of upset... tape residue as usual 🙁 . A couple secondary colors needed, then clear decal clear 😄 Papa Truck paints should be here today, so I'm trying to get this car done in the next 24 hours. 🙂

#6.5 Done with secondary colors and did first clear. The clear hides the tape residue pretty well, good enough for me to be happy with it on my shelf 🙂 I'm only going to wait a couple hours or so, then decals, and clear.

#6.5485 These decals didn't want to play nice... they are old and crusty... didn't want to separate in the water... I looked at the box it's copyright 1986... figures... oh well there was only 6... waiting a while to dry, then last clear and build. Theoretically photo booth in the AM for this car, then setting up a project for the Papa Truck.

All went well in the end, the little Hobbit braved all challenges and prevailed! 🙂 Very nice thin black line on the door/glass isolation 👍 And the little cutie firetruck finally has a friend - even in shining red!

Thanks, I was very happy with the result of the black mask. I'll have to park it next to my Project 021 -- Honda City Cabriolet | Album by chrisagreat (1:24) and I'll have to rearange a shelf for all the little guys to chill together 🙂

Today was a good day for the today 😄 came out nice Chris. Will fit nice next to the Honda 🙂
The decals of the K100 still worked great (1984 decals) Only thing was the yellowing on the edges. The water just need to be warm enough for the decal to come loose. Dipped them for about 12 seconds each.

@Danny... If it were the CL9000 Vs Today.... I would just say that Today is screwed. Say F it, go buy some popcorn at the popcorn stand and find a seat in the crowd... That destruction would be awesome.
@Thanks James! Like I said the clear coat makes the residue BARELY visible... I was so happy on that.
I'm just choosing best pics on my camera and pic uploads in less than 5.
