Need to make some pics of the finished one, hopefully this weekend.

looking good... do you need to drill the flame dampers?
3 August 2019, 07:11
Thomas Mayer
Yes, you may do it. The manual says to use a 1mm drill, what I did. Much better and easy to do!

These look like the guns that were installed in the Ho-229. !
Or, am I wrong. ?

At least the Zoukei-mura kit has two MK 103. These indeed are the same as on this little Flak here. Other sources mention the Horten to get 2 - 4 Mk 108 cannons, eben if these have a lower rate of fire.

If I can source one from this side of the world, (China or Japan), I will make some room in my display case for it. 👍

Check Modellbau König! Those are the chaps doing this kit, in cooperation with Takom!

Oh. ! OK. 🙂
Thomas, I am discovering kits that I am really getting a taste for, or maybe that it's because different manufacturers are coming out with some really diverse subjects. 😉

Looking good, nice thing with the other colored munition drum. Maybe just for finish you can apply some shiny parts to the black gun with a pencil. Just some borders like they touched something while unpacking, getting touched, etc...

Bart, thank you for your suggestion. Only, the Flak now looks just fine for me. Up to another project!

Well. ! Now I am looking at the completed build, the more determined I am to have one in my display case. ! 👍
Thomas, a most impressive build my friend, and the ammo drums and projectiles look most convincing indeed. 🙂
How many hours did you spend on it to see the finished result. ?
Congrats my friend. I hope I do as great a job on mine. 👍 😉

Thank you, Kerry! Indeed this was one of the most fast builds I ever did. The quality made assembly a breeze, almost like Tamiya. Most time was spend watching the oil colour scratches to dry...

That comment Thomas sounds like the Phalanx build I did. 👍
Fast, but the quality of the parts made it so easy to build, and enjoyable too. 😉

Happy to hear you enjoyed it, Kezza! I only wonder why RPG decided to do bolts not moulded on, but in long and thin strips of PE. I think about a way to replace those PE strips, to get the bolts more definition. Or, maybe, I´m just insane... 😉

Thomas, not knowing much about the actual structure of the Phalanx and all the bolts attached, I just added what the kit came with and left it at that.
That sort of 'rivet' counting I leave to the experts. 🙂

What I am none... Drilled my left thumb yesterday the full length of the drill, a good sign to look for another way to improve the bolts! But me thinks we should possibly keep the Phalanx discussion on your great thread.

And what were you drilling to result in you creating a ventilation shaft in your thumb. ?
Are you OK and no major damage. ?
Shit, I bet that hurt mate. :-O :-O :-O
My comment about the 'experts' was in no way a shot at you my good friend. 🙂
I do remember seeing the indication in the instructions to 'remove' the bolt heads, but I thought they looked to be ok really, so I just left them.
I really don't think there will be a judge willing to eliminate my model based on the removal or non removal of the bolt heads, and if so, that would be really pedantic/petty. 😉
But as it is a newly released model with very little up close imagery of it around, I am thinking that if there was any 'issue' with the assessment of it by any judges, then so be it, but I really don't care if I win or miss a place.
At least it will open up a new field in the modelling comp world that just might get it's own classification, given that the Russian beast of a CIWS is almost on the shelves as we speak (Oct). 👍
I am looking forward to the word from Hobby Link Japan that will say, Mr COX, your model is on i's way. !!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

This gun system you have here certainly looks like it would not be so labour intensive for the crews.
Especially when it comes to keeping the ammunition up to it.
The drum feed system I imagine would be a whole lot better than trying to keep the magazines of 10 rounds per load going. !
And it looks more compact than the 20mm Flakvierling system, or is that my imagination. ? :-/

10 August 2019, 07:01
Thomas Mayer
Sorry, mate, my comment never was intended to critize you or your wonderful work! I´m not aware of the instructions of the CIWS to advice to remove those bolts. I just tend to be this insane to try to replace them by resin bolts (noone will see after a coat of paint...). Oh well... :-/
And yes: pushing a 0.5mm drill into my thumb did hurt! And it did bleed!! But this morning, all is fine again!

Kerry COX
Put it all down to 'cultural' differences mate. hahahahahaha
As for the hole in the thumb. Thank God it was only a 0.5. 👍
Any bigger and it would have been a major hurt indeed. 🙁
Now, I have just watched a video of the Das Werk model and all it's exciting bits and pieces, and I am really getting excited at the thought of having one in my display case soon. 🙂 👍
I did notice that the decals look to include in it's generic kills, what looks like the UFO Germany was supposed to have had zooming around the skies. !
I did see some really pronounced seam lines on the barrels too. 🙁

On the seam lines: I would say those are as in amodern Tamiya kit, at least in my example. The base plate, the barrels, and other parts got the seam lines removed using my UMM tool and a sanding stick. Not too much work and easily done. I wonder why they left them on their preview build in the video?

I wondered the same thing. !
But it hasn't stopped me from getting it. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Album info

My first kit from Das Werk. Some few mould lines to be erased, but no problem with my UMM tool. I drilled the muzzle brakes according to the well done assembly manual, a real difference!
Painting has been done by Mr.Paint and Alclad paints. Moulding and detail is first rate, close to a Tamiya kit.
