Another Tiny kit, maybe around 50 pieces, but the instructions are crazy detailed with color so that'll take more time 🙂

Right on the border between blue and grey.
The modol color isn't airbrush ready, thin it well.

Can someone help describe how I should do step 9? There are a ton of colors and I can't think of how to do it without mucking up... Can you describe in deep detail please... how do I accomplish this? (The green lines just indicate to me that I have that piece, and that it's been snipped and sanded)

Start with the lightest colour. Mask, liquid could be your friend. Spray a darker colour, mask again. Spray darker colour, etc.
OR paint the easiest to mask bit first and work towards the harder parts.
Pick your poison 😉
Paint the handbrake and gearhandle separately.

Your 2 cents sucks man 😛 (j.k) That sounds like work, I'm allergic to work... 😛 But seriously, Thanks James, I was racking my brain but all I was coming up with is mask mask mask, but how. Thanks for the advice on how to layer it. I like that this car is more intricately colored... Scares the pants off me because I'm used to just pointing and blasting color 'til it covered... But I'm starting to be O.K. with the challenges thrown at me by the hobby. AND I have all of you for backup, which gives me more confidence 🙂

Oh hey Martin, didn't see you there, sorry. Yes, that makes sense lighter to darker. And yes the extra bits will be painted separately. Tom tried some liquid mask and he said it wasn't very good. Have you used it, and what is your experience?

Liquid mask can work well on curved edges. It's also useful for filling up between tape. The trick is to get it in the right place, and liquids sometimes flow where you don't want them, e.g. beer never seems to stay in my glass.
Like most stuff, it takes some getting used to.
There's also an old fashioned brush you could use....

BTW, I think my liquid mask was maybe bad. I need to try others coz it sure seems like it'd be very useful at times!
Chris, would you hand paint some of it? It is interior so the finish is not so noticeable.

I've used UHU-tac for masking odd spots before, works a treat. Thank you both for your time. Off to priming and getting this project started, instead of getting the jitters.

That's the spirit! Show no fear. There's plenty of other kits waiting their turn on ebay.

Yeah I'll probably hand brush some of it at some point, but I want to get more efficient at the airbrush and the steps needed to use it (masking, layering etc).

Everything is primed. To get the yellow and black pieces to white I did a transition layer of grey primer before the white primer. Worked out well. Also, I super cleaned the chrome off of the wheels, they will be chrome with pastel blue spokes.

Super Clean. It eats away the chrome in 10-20 mins. It's also reusable, I keep some in a resealable jar on the table that I can put the pieces in when I need. Just make just to wash the pieces with soap after... amazon.com/dp/B0039ZBLEC

Be careful with the uhu mask Chris. If it is applied too thick along the edges, you can get a massive 'step' in your paintedge.
Take a look at Paul Budzik's site for a more comprehensive explanation: paulbudzik.com/tools-techniques/index.html There is a link under videos called 'Finishing and Painting Aircraft Canopies' At the 2 min mark starts what I'm talking about.

Yeah, I made it as thin as possible, and I am planning to finish the detail with brush, so it should hide any of those defects.

I thought a bug would look good in a pastel color in my head. I need to pick up any other of their (Vallejo) pastels... I like them.

I love (and am kind of scared of) how color rich the Tamiya instruction are... four different colors on the brakes... It may be a small kit, but detailed. 🙂

That was my experience with the Impreza. I liked it though. Pushed me to be more precise.
