Ooh....I go through all the trouble to assemble the PE clutch and then it doesn't fit. Bugger.

That engine is indistinguishable from a top drawer diecast piece, you couldn't improve on the metal effects of those barrels, crankcases & heads.
A beautiful job, I'm in now 😉

Thanks. I'd really hoped that clutch would really make it all pop but I have to settle for the plastic.

Thanks. Had to strip that awful chrome and repaint with Testors silver. The engine is all the various Tamiya colors.
And you are correct, Moto GP is some great racing......I just wish we got it here in the States without having to pay a rather expensive subscription.

Moving along....

The step I was not looking forward to: the pinstripes on the wheels. Each wheel took 3 decals, all of which had way too much excess film, so getting them in place was tricky. If you look at the pics, you can see which one was the first try. I tried pressing them down with a Qtip and that did not go well, especially when Microsol was applied. What I learned was to get them in place and go along them length wise with a flat brush. I then applied Micrsol and left the things to their own to dry and set. Fun stuff.

Worth the effort tho, results speak for themselves!

Thankfully, I can hide the one major flaw 🙂

Flaws? I couldn't do as good a job putting full size rim transfers on my S1000RR racers haha

Lovely job with the carbon decals too Bossy. I reckon they are harder than the wheel pin stripes. Not a Rossi fan but LOVE Moto GP. Best Motorsport in the world today.

Agreed Peter, MotoGP & World SBK racers are the best entertainment on wheels

I had to do the carbon myself, so thanks. It's funny to me that Studio 27 seems to have only made carbons for the 06 Honda....along with Tamiya making plenty of fork sets for that kit.....which is nowhere to be found. Anyway, I did a screen grab from a YouTube clip and found there are at least 3 different carbon patterns that I tried to match with what I have. Close enough, I figure.

That carbon looks almost real, very nice

Found out how old these decals were, it made for a challenge. That and Tamiyas excess film.....love that!

Finally recieved replacement decalsthat took 2 plus months to get from Japan cuz they apparently haven't reached large envelope technology over there and insist on sending a sheet of decals in a BOX. Anyway, I can finally put the finishing touches on this one.

Beautiful build, stunning. Love the details. Top Studio ftw! Those clutches are sooo good. Clean!

Sadly, the clutch didn't fit underneath the guard and I had to use the kit one.

Peter Hardy
Explain Bossy. What do you mean under the guard?
26 January 2020, 06:58

If you look at my pics, there is one of the PE clutch next to the kit clutch and you can see the PE clutch is thicker. When put into its place on the bike, there is a carbon fibre guard that goes over top of the clutch. Alas, with the PE clutch being as thick as it is, the cover piece won't affix to the engine. Sadly, I couldn't get the ribs on the clutch all to thread through their slits on the top plate.....my eyes just aren't THAT good anymore. So, the PE clutch properly assembled may in fact fit, but mine doesn't.......bugger.

Thanks. These Tamiya bike kits are a fun build, what with no seat belts to dick with and come out really well. Think I may do some more.
