Hm, not sure there is any kit of the IX in 1:144 scale, or did you find something? There is one in 1:72 I think.

There is a new kit coming from Revell, but it has not yet been released.
I'm waiting in anticipation!

Btw, I have a WIP thread for the VIIc version, and I show in photo 3, a trick to perforate the many openings, without damaging the plastic inside the "holes", perfect result. 🙂
In short, one simply scrapes the plastic away on the BACK side, then there is NO work done on the opening themselves, the holes will open themselves once the plastic is gone on the back side. I used the Trumpeter chisel tool for scraping the plastic.

Ah, I forgot to say, the photo 1 show a failed attempt at opening the holes on the sides, so I bougth a second kit and tried again.
There is a newer sub kit, Type XXI. Unfortunately, the plastic thickness of that kit is so big, scraping the plastic there is much harder and rather annoying.
Btw, looks like Revell website doesn't sell to norway, I tested by placing an order for some other item and my country did not show up on the list of countries for shipping. :|

It is a interesting approach to get the holes opened up, but it leaves you with an interior that is empty, which needs work.
You've mentioned this technique before, when I did the type XXI, I might give it a try, it looks better than painting the holes black.
I can't imagine why Revell would not ship to Norway, it is probably a mistake or they forgot to add your country to the list.

Btw, I found some upcoming photo etch for this new mould kit:
They write that they will wait to release this PE, until Revell releases their new uboat kit.
rcsubs.cz/index.php/..0-1-144-revell-05197
This appear to be only deck details which I guess is nice so one doesn't have to cut holes into the sides of the hull or anything.
I have a set or maybe two for the VIIc and they look nice.
