#2 All the paints called for in the instructions of The PaPa Truck, I probably won't use them all, but they're there. 🙂
Also the way I gather paint supplies is if I grab an open bottle off the shelf, I'll grab a new bottle as well, just to know I have it if needed.
Also 95% of these colors are also reused on the Super Boss.

#5 Chrome is gone. Here's a look at the decal sheet. A lot of long stringy decals... My mortal enemy!

I recommend some Vallejo Airbrush Thinner for those Model Colour paints, they are quite thick. I thin them for brushing too, although the metallics are great unthinned for adding little dots of raised detail like bolt heads

Heh, all those new paint bottles, I thoght you were trying them out for the first time, then I spotted the half used bottles. Vallejo's kinda pricey in the USA though isn't it? I've seen it in hobby shops at $5 a bottle.

I buy online and they are usually under $2.50 a bottle. Same with 23ml Tamiya jars, under $3. and shipping is only $8, no matter how many paints are in the order. I usually get 15-20 paints. It feels like there's hardly any shipping cost when you divide by 20 😄

#6 Talk about a big project! The chassis on this ridgid semi is 13.25" long! Regular COE Semi Tractors are only about 9.25"

Tyrone Malone did create a Mama Truck, it hauls around the Boss Truck of America. It's the same size as PaPa, but a foot shorter in height. There is a PaPa info card in #3 of the album.

You're good Bozz 😄 FYI for you, there's a 360 degree mould line around the top and 360 mould line on the left and right sides but all easy to clean up.
I've decided to split this project into 2 parts. The instructions leads to a perfect split between sections. I will be building up the chassis as one stage, then adding all the external and interior parts as stage two. That way my little workspace isn't overflooded with plastic 😄
Today I snipped off all the chassis pieces and really slowed myself down to concentrate on all the flashing and mould lines.
I'm trying to will myself to spray at least one coat of primer before bed. BUT my will to watch Netflix is stronger 😄

Thanks guys! I will go as slow as my head will let me.
#7 Put on a mist of grey primer, followed by a couple of good layers of primer.
This is only half the pieces... anything related to the chassis, engine, wheels etc...
The truck itself is still in the box. A lot of pieces!

The interior --- First, I'm keeping the diamond walls because it seems more like a V.I.T. feature vs smooth walls. There are alot of colors called for, it's kind of intimidating, but will give it my best 😄 Here's a picture of all of the color instructions, and also the color scheme I'm using. [img1] [img2]

It's hard to find a photo of interior, have 1 picture where you can see a white seat, but that's it...
For the bed I think I would use alu style.

on the deck, accuracy would be a Grey matt finish, the photo looks like it's done in non slip paint. However, if the Kit surface is diamond plate texture on the deck plates, I'd go with an aluminium over gloss black.

For the deck, I have is Alclad black gloss base and Tamiya XF-16 Flat aluminum, looked at a site that said those two would be an ok combo.

Think that's a recipe for disaster, Oil based base and Alcohol based color. The Tamiya flat aluminium won't come out like an alclad aluminium.

Chrome it is, I'll still do a test of the alclad and and XF-16 (probably on the bottom of the loading deck 😄 ) I've read that they are ok together but it's enamels and alclad that are bad. And alclad must be the base, with the acrylic over it, or problems will happen... but we will see when I try. 🙂 Thank you for the info. and my next paint order I'll get some Alclad Aluminum.
These interior instructions are making my head spin uncomfortably. I can't think of a step 1, step2 etc... to get it masked, sprayed, and not fu@k up... 🙁
I think I might hand brush the interior, hopefully it'll slow me down.

A matt varnish between overlapping colours should prevent disaster when masking. I use Tamiya tape, and havent had any issues masking overlapping coats where the bottom coat is a sealed coat, ie varnished or a cured gloss/semi gloss.

How did you do the silver so cleanly on the gauge rings, and buttons so cleanly? Your dash is amazing! I was using a toothpick for all of it, and is nowhere near as clean.

I used a toothpick aswell for the silver. I put a drop of paint on a piece of paper so I can use little bits of paint and every time before using new paint on toothpick I clean it. After the silver I do the black and touch up of the brown if needed.
And I use my magnifying glasses

+1 on the toothpicks, I also only use vallejo model air or 1mm pens for detailing, the extra thin paint picks up nicely on raised detail. as my eyesight isn't what it was, 2x reading glasses and a 5 diopter lit magnifier make it easier to see what I'm doing, I've also cut down a selection of brushes so the handles don't get in the way of the magnifier.

Assuming that's acrylic, it may be un-sandable, and to avoid losing the rivet detail,You may have to break down and strip the whole panel and start again.( I know, that would suck)

depends what brand paint you used, If it's Tamiya, some isopropyl alcohol on a makeup remover pad might shift it, really wet in the area of the blob and wipe the area clean of paint, then with a pad "damp" with IPA, lightly wipe until the edge of the area is on a sandable section with no raised detail. Then let dry for a couple of hours, and wet flat the edges of the area with 1000 to 2000 grit strips of paper. I also use scotch brite (genuine 3m only) cut into small strips to key and smooth areas like that.

It's a nasty place to have that blob 🙁 I would use a sanding sponge of 3k with water and no pressure to get the blob away. but others already gave advise that may work better. hope you get it sorted. and like you said yourself, having fun is what counts 🙂

I didn't find the Bandit on that site, just the Hideout... Is there a page for preordering the Bandit somewhere? Or a page to pre-order both

Not sure if/or when that is to be released, but I'm sure it wont be to far behind.

They had a list for original 1979 issue, so I assume that it will be reissued in an identical box as RND2 has been doing.

Good montage there buddy, captures the movie well. You've struck a chord with me. I may see if I can sneak in the Firebird after the Boss and before the Aussie. Maybe. 😄 They don't make movies like they used too... And yes Snowman's rig would be awesome... along with the Rubber Duck and Pigpen and the HAPpY ToYz goblin truck.

Would love to add Rubber Duck's mack to my stash, hard to find that model of mack though. Planning one of my Aerodynes to be BJ's Rig, and at some point get a Kenworth conventional to do Snowman's. I'm also thinking one of my Petes will be the Coca Cola christmas truck, the Tractor is the easy part, the Trailer on the other hand.......

Well, just to throw a spanner in the works, I'm already started on the Snowman Truck. I'm getting decals from modeltruckin.com. Jerry is a great guy. The AMT Kenworth is a great donor kit, and recently I picked up a reefer, although the fridge unit is totally wrong, so scratchbuild it is. For you truck nuts, the colour of the rig isn't black, but coffee black. I couldn't find a close colour here, so I mixed my own. Man, that was a mission in itself! When my decals arrive, I'll get some pictures up and start a new thread.

Too cool! I don't think you have to worry about the reefer unit on this build, at least the original one. which didn't use it, what you get is the units from the late 60's mid 70's which is correct! They changed them around the mid to late 80's and again in the 90's. Technology change. Best of luck, we'll be watching.

@Tim. If you look at the awesome pic, Bob supplied, you'll notice that the front wheels stick out? That's kinda where I'm upto. I have a cure for that though. On my reference pics, taken from the film, it shows a fridge unit on the front of the trailer, but I think it's fake, because there's no tank under the trailer? Lol, I just know some of you guys are gonna watch the film now!

Valid points! I just saw the wheel issue as well. It's hard to do Hollywood vehicles since they use so many versions as well as make up stuff! The last time I watched that movie I couldn't help but notice the gas prices back then on a gas station! LOL! The last time I saw the trailer was in ( The walking dead) Tv show. Could you post a pic of the reefer unit on your album please.

🙁 It's not the Bandag Bandit. It's the same truck except all of the Bandag licensing decals are gone and it's just called the Kenworth Custom Drag Truck and Bandag is no longer licensing the Hideout either. 🙁
Bandag licensed, more decals - [img1]
Bandag licensed, more decals - [img2]
Less decals, no licensing - Both new releases - go to 20:00 mark - Youtube Video
