The red stripe is a decal. The kit comes with both the red and whitr stripe to go over painted blue, as I did and also comes with giant blue decals that have the red and white pinstripes but those are SUCH a headache to get to set without creasing, etc. That and I didn't like Studio 27s shade of blue.
