The 17 cm Sturmgeschütz on the E-100 chassis remains an interesting topic for both german tank fans and modellers as the prospect of a huge gun on a superheavy tank does indeed stirr the imagination. In addition, the vehicle has become quite famous in it´s rendition from the videogame World of Tanks, where the vehicle has been reconstructed based on surviving blueprints showing a 17 cm gun-mount. The overall setup chosen for this reconstruction was one of a rear casemate which is an interesting solution and has quite a distinct look. Modelcollect´s 1/72 kit is based on this reconstruction. Do however note, that this configuration would be somewhat restrained to the prototype E-100 configuration, not the planned final version with rear drivetrain (although a configuration like Ferdinand with ther transmission under the fighting compartment would technically be possible, although impractical).
I will build the kit with a couple of improvements like OKB tracks and an Aber barrel. Also, I will add crew figures and maybe a vignette to showcase the impressive size of those superheavy tanks - an opportunity to good to skip.
