not really planed was this commision build right now, but i have to finish it before our holiday. so i had to lay my 1962 BelAirs beside (the 57 BelAir is also ready 😉 ) and i have started with paintimg the maingroups as usual.
gloss / semigloss and flat black, silver and the most parts are painted. working now on the body to remove mold lines.

I built the U.S. Version, only complaint was the decal stripe was a bit wonky one off till-tar and didn't line up well at all. But a cool kit all in all.

decal Time 😉
holy moly! i have never attached that kind if tiny decals like the oilfilter, enginebelt or anything lilke that. The layed down perfect with the right use of decalsofter and "dont touchthem yet". took the time they needed and all was fine. i'm happy with the result, not happy with the pictures.
@tim / scalemates: is there a way possible, to rotate the pictures as the are uploaded? i am making the pictures with my mobile and they are vertikal. if there is a chance to cut or rotate them would be great.

Lol Dom 🙂 I thought it would be easier than building Huggy Bear's ride, complete with promiscuous ladies of the night 😉

thanks!
@Bozzer: you are right :-D
@John: it will be nice and clean 😉
Thankyou Istvan. yes, agreed. I#m going "fast forward", looking good so far without complicaions.
Yesturday i started the decals. on my first S&H Torino, i had problems with cracks and crinkles, so i made them slow and with more attention.
the ressult is perfect from the lying - no crinkles or something else. The secret? let them the time they need to lay down, stroke with a flat brush to minimize damaging and let them ly down as the decals would :-D
the only thing is, after positioning the roof decal and adjust it on the doorlines, the side stripes are little bit out of the place they should be. on the sideview, they go a littlebit up to the top of the fender - on the original they are mor to the wheelarch.
but i have no chance to correct that because both side stripes "stay and fall" with the roof decal (see first picture of it) imo, it is the best way to fit it on the body, the side stripes have to follow the line...also imo, i think, this decals are a littlebit out of scale when comparing to the movie car. but, "i dont care, had done the best i could" 🙂
after half n hour the white stripes where done, the letters and sidemarkers are a piece of cake. Now: dont touch it for one/two days, than starting with the chrometrim.
thanks!

I bought one of these awhile back. I even ponied up for a set of corrected resin wheels. If you were to remake the decals, what changes would you make?

Dear Bill. i thought about on the weekend while attaching the chrometrim and discuss "in the club".
i would try something new, there are three options i had figured out.
the first thought:
i would try to attach the roof decal parallel to the rear sidewindow(s) / C-pillar line...but i think, that the decal is wider on the roof and crinkels.
only a guess.
because the angle then changes, if it is parallel to the window-C-pillar line, i think, the stripes lines up on the side lower to the front fender where the stripes belong. sounds complicated, i will make a graphic on the model for this.
my second thought if it crinkels on the roof is to cut it in half on the roof (or three sections: both sides and the roof)...hm. imo, the roof decal is the crucial point on this.
perhaps,
but the third thought might be the right way:
first attach the sidestripes. you have three points for orientations: the doorhandles, the panelline from the door and the front wheel arches. if all three points are observed and line up, than attache the roof decal. i think, that is the way to adjustment.

I think you may be correct on the 3rd option. Align the side pieces absolutely perfectly first. I would tightly trim the roof decal to see if it lines up perfectly at the black outlines. If it does great. If not, I would trim and/or cut the decal lengthwise to obtain alignment if it is too wide to start with. If it is too narrow and needs to be widened, then I would make a new decal on my PC from scratch.

agreed Bill. i would go that way, if i build it again.
update? yes.
in my opinion the biggest step forward: chrometrim with BMF is done. i hate that job! yes, i hate it a lot (because of my eyes). but it is better than trying to tape and paint it with alclad or something else.
And because, i see, that i hate that work....there are now five models in line waiting for chrometrim...
Next was to clear coat the body and glued in the windows. it fits very nice.
Last step painting the wheelshouses black and it is ready to be marriaged. hurrah :-D
note: chromtrim around the wheelarches and door handles will follow at last, when it is nearly complete and the mirrors / wheels will be mounted. This one i will polish a little bit

That's looking fantastic Dominik, patience with the stripe paid off 👍
Have you ever used a Molotow chrome pen to do window & wheel arch trim? I get great results from it, looks far less bulky than bare metal foil …….. & so much faster!

Thank you very much!
Before our vacation, i worked on the last steps of the Torino.
Marriage is done without trouble, the last parts will be mounted. I only sanded the rear panel between the headlights down for a better fit.
I call it ready and the gallery will follow 🙂
I'm really, really happy about the result.

Dom, I was perusing a site, and I stumbled upon a starsky and hutch, pair of figures. They're out there, if you're interested?

Yeah, Timbo used them on his Striped Tomato a few years back.

Dang! How did I miss this? Great work, Dominik!
@Bob Hall...I did the US version as well and agree with you on the decals. Was quite happy with the build until I started working with the decals...quite frustrating, actually.

QVilliers, Bob - Thank you very much mates 🙂
@Bozzer, i think, i have them "in the deep stash" *lol*. Have to search for them
@Mike, i had build it twice. on the first i cutted the stripes on the roof and i was fine with the result.
On this - know i knew about it - i tried it in one piece and it worked out. slowly and smooth worked with patient.
