Did the props actually look like this, or are these on the museum piece damaged? 

This is a small boat, mikromir could have made this in 1/72, and it would still be small. 

Comparison between this and the type IX in 1/144 scale 🙂 

First step is to define the rudders from the frame.

Made these rudders from evergreen to replace the kit parts

The 'tower' is made up of clear panels, to represent the windows

Base ready, name cut from the photo etch fret  

Managed to get the props on the bottom, and the fiddly cages around them without too much swearing... I forgot how much I hate working with photo etch  

The larger screw are more manageable 🙂 

Any thoughts on this part? It looks like there's some kind of mesh inside the ring, but is there glass in there as well?

Ready for weathering  

Glass painted, I've made a small copper paint spot in the middle, and filled in the rest with Tamiya smoke.
End caps for the props are also glued in place.
