Off we go. Here the sprues. The only objectively difficult thing here will be to built up the launch pad as it consists of many small parts - nothing that a modeler with some expierience can't handle.

Update: prepared the parts from step 1 of the instructions and glued them together. Fit is very good. Dry fitted parts for step 2 and fit is spot on.

Final coat of primer sprayed, had to correct aroud 60% of the first layer adue to doing clean up with 1200 grit sand paper and it wasn't enough. So did it over starting from 800 and ending on 2500. Now the result is satisfying.

I sprayed the first layer of tamiya dark green on the launch platform. It was my first attempt at airbrushing using sprays before. I found the 1 part paint 2 parts thinner ratio good here with 1.8 psi wit the harder stenbeck evolution, more paint ratios seem to clog the airbrush constantly.

Did the second layer on the launch platform today. Will keep it clean as I will do the museum example in order to work on my metallic paint skills. Did get the V-2 prototype from special armor a few days ago. The Dongfeng is a V-2 on steroids when you see the comparison 🙂

Mr. Hobby flat varnish sprayed on the launch platform - considering the platform done. Assembled all detail part on the missile halves.

Missile body assembled. Fit was good after dry fitting but still there is a seam that needs to be sanded and gaps that need to be filled on both sides.

Sanded the seams initially with 800 grit and used mr. Hobby liquid putty to fill any gaps.

The Missile is primed with the first layer, some minor correction needed before the next coat.

Corrections made and the first layer of tamiya silver has been applied. I wanted the riveting to stand out more as it begun to dissapear after a few coats of primer. I did so with the mr hobby rescribig tool which is also good for riveting only to find out after more research that it was not too much visible on the missile but decided to leave it as it is. Actually the one I am kitting now (Beijing museum piece) is propably an mockup as it only resembles the SS-2 in outline lacking many distinctive details - a thing that I noticed after more research.

Decals applied with the help of micro sol and set. Lost the pitot during painting so needed to exchange it for some spare I had left over. As I am doing the museum example which is in pristine condition no weathering or washes will be applied. The letters on the missile mean Dongfeng-1.

Calling it done. Satisfied by the result although did some mistakes. Basically the kit is no Dongfeng-1, at least not the museum example, but I would be the opinion that the museum example is a mock up. For sure it is an SS-2 SIBLING (R-2) missile which the Dongfeng-1 was based on.

Nice finish. The rocket itself looks like a very basic kit (maybe a subtle wash would help?), but I like the stand colour and drybrushing the most 👍

Thank you Łukasz. I didnt do a wash as the example from the museum is in pristine condition and it would make the riveting stand even more out. - the kit one is overdone and my reconstruction after sanding didnt help it either. I would remove the riveting completely next time if I would do this kit one more time only leaving it partially on the fins. The rocket consisted of around 10 parts on the other side the stand was over 30 parts so pretty basic but i don't think there are many other ways to do it as the V-2 from Special Armour has not many more parts than this one.
