Audi Sport Quattro A2

March 21, 2021First we start with some plastic surgery: replaced the Roof of the transkit Body with the roof of the Kitpart. Transkitpart is way too thick. That way the clearparts will Not fit...2
March 21, 2021After glue and putty from transplanting the roof was cured, Little bit of sanding was required...3
March 21, 2021Turned out ok. The casting from renaissance is of very good quality! Almost no airbubbles or flaws.4
March 21, 2021The rollbar included in the Kit is far from being complete. So one has to build the missing section By using reference pictures from the Web from scratch. This is MK3, 1 and 2 did Not work out because my thinking was too complicated...5
March 21, 2021A little mock-up to Check the stance of the chassis suspension: i think i will have to rise the height of the ride a little Bit for using graveltire setup.6
March 21, 2021Raised Suspension for only 1mm. Gives the wheels a Bit More space in the wheelarches...7
March 21, 2021Modified Kit suspension.8
March 21, 2021Modified exhaust.9
March 29, 2021Priming in the Name of...10
March 30, 2021Paintjob in pure brilliant white (almost no difference to the Primercoat)11
May 4, 2021Done a thing or two with the interior: first bended and testfittet some etched parts from the reji-model set...12
May 4, 2021Then build a new gear shifter from scratch by reference of some pictures from the real thing. Not 100% but far better then the kit parts. Also changed position of the fire-extinguisher...13
May 4, 2021Made some helmets by modifying the heads from driver and copilot figures of the kit as an addition for the interior.14
May 4, 2021Rollcage MK4; final version. Ended up in scavenging the italeri Kit of the Audi Quattro for this project...15
May 4, 2021Fits pretty good. Minor adjustments to the dashboard had to be done. Fits good as well...16
May 4, 2021With some little adjustments the sidewalls of the italeri kit mated with the Tamiya cockpit tub perfectly...17
May 4, 2021Main components of the cockpit are done. Little filling and sanding of ejectionmarks have to be done then cockpit will be ready for priming and painting. Did not intend to do a kitbash but what the heck.18
May 13, 2021Put the decals on. Ran into some problems during that. Part of the decals where so brittle and stiff that they could not being applied. The big yellow stripes turned out to be useless because they fell apart when getting contact with water...19
May 13, 2021So those had to be masked and painted. Other decals from the same sheet required a lot of decal softer to match the contours of the body shell while others worked perfectly. again: all decals came from the same sheet. Never experienced that before...20
May 22, 2021Drivetrain, suspension, exhaust etc. where painted and mounted. Realized now that I forgot to fill the holes I drilled from rollbar attempts Mk1 - Mk3... bummer! Skid plate under the engine was scavenged from the italeri kit...21
May 22, 2021Also added disc brakes from the italeri kit. Gives the wheels a wider stance.22
May 22, 2021Clear cote (gunze mr. Super clear) was applied. This time I wil not polish it: Came out of the rattle can pretty smooth and I don’t want to achieve a show car Finish on this rally car.23
May 22, 2021Window trim was also done by using Matt black decal stripes and free hand painting...24
May 22, 2021On the seats I used zero textured paints and Kevlar decals...25
May 22, 2021Dashboard painted after reverence pictures from the real thing. Instrument decals from the italeri kit and an reji model sheet. Steeringwheel also painted with zero textured paints...26
May 26, 2021Interior was completed. No problems at all...27
May 26, 2021Road book of mr. Geistdörfer (co pilot) from the spare box...28
May 26, 2021Seat-belts from Scale production, seat-bealt clips from the reji-model etched sheet...29
May 26, 2021Anti-glare shields made from scratch (blister pack and copper wire)30
May 26, 2021Cowling painted and put in place...31
May 26, 2021Clear parts where also installed. Had to cut out the rear window and glue it separately to achieve a good fit. Clear parts where glued in place by using 5 minute 2k epoxy glue just to make sure that they stay where they are supposed to. Rear wing was mounted using white glue (zero crystal clear). I tend to ruin the surface finish of my models when using super glue...32
May 26, 2021Turn lights came from czech truckmodel. Looks so much better than just painted orange...33
May 26, 2021Same thing with the reflectors on the rear...34
May 28, 2021Been working on the wheels. One thing that bothered me was that the Tamiya kit has tyres with Kleber label but the actual car is spotting Michelin sponsor stickers...35
May 28, 2021So the Kleber brandig has to go by use of 400 and 1000 grid Tamiya sanding sponge. Positive side effect: it takes the shine from the tyre walls...36
May 28, 2021The rims from the Renaissance set are spotting holes for the tire valves so I added some...37
May 28, 2021Finished wheels. Maybe I will add a little wash later (not quite sure yet)38
May 28, 2021Auxiliary lights where glued together, primed and painted. Reflector painted with my trusty molotow felt pen. Quite fragile so this things will be glued in place as very last step when finishing the model...39
June 6, 2021Rearlight was installed. Nothing fancy here: just Tamiya transparent red and orange and molotow chrome...40
June 6, 2021Turn lights same procedure. Added some etched netting to the front end. Real car spots that too (the netting. Don’t think that it’s made from photo etch 😉)41
June 6, 2021Engine was completed. Several details where added to the Kit parts. Used pictures from the real thing as reference. Side mirrors and towing hook where also added...42
June 11, 2021Aaaaand: it’s done!43
June 11, 2021In the last and final step small detail parts like bonnet locks, windscreen wipers etc. where added to the model...44
June 11, 2021Auxiliary lights where glued on, antenna made of steel wire and mud flaps made from some blister pack has been installed. That’s pretty much it. Et violà! Will add more pictures of the finished model when there is better light...45
June 13, 2021As promised a few impressions of the finished model...46
June 13, 2021It resembles the 1984 Rallye Monte Carlo winner car from Audi Sport works team piloted by mr.
Walter Röhrl and his co Pilot mr. Christian Geistdörfer...47
June 13, 2021„Der Lange“ has won the Rallye leading with 1:13 minutes before the 2nd placed Audi Sport Quattro A2 piloted by Blomquist/Cederberg...48
June 13, 2021The audis dominated this Rallye by finishing 1st (Röhrl/Geistdörfer), 2nd (Blomquist Cederberg) and 3rd (Mikkula/Hertz), leading with a whopping 24:24 Minutes to 4th placed Renault 5 Turbo piloted by Thérier/Vial...49
June 13, 2021Mr. Röhrl always stated that his four victories at the Rallye Monte Carlo where is most important achievements...50
June 13, 202151
June 13, 2021A finished model is never perfect: the body shell is warped a little bit so the engine hood does not close perfectly. Could not figure out how to solve this issue...52
June 13, 2021Overall I am quite happy with the result.53
June 13, 2021It’s not a 100% but very close for my liking.54
