Having confirmed my suspicions, I can safely say:
The problem with these parts, is that the lower of the two "flying" projections is too long, by about 1.5mm, which means that the upper of the two doesn't meet the building (it's supposed to be supporting!)!!
It's important to make sure that the buttress parts are bent at 90 degrees, or the "flying" arm will point at the wrong angle.
I used a steel ruler, ensuring that the "end" of the buttress is held firmly against the edge of the ruler, then bend each side to the face & back of the ruler - makes manufacturing of these parts easy.
starting on the tower end of the cathedral.
I used my favoured "secret tab and eye" method when assembling these 4-walled constructions - makes it a little tricky to handle until you can start locking the "inside" tabs - but a much neater result.
Tower is attached to the rest of the building with only 2 tabs, then comes the tricky part of getting all 13 tabs into the receiving slots in the base.
No in progress shots of me twisting and writhing in my chair, complete with facial twisting no doubt, to get this complete.
and high up in the roof, TWO tabs secure the steeple in place...... Fine pliers needed here!

###Noticed error in parts for the "flying buttresses" so though I'd better document that!!
As Chris from M&H4U suggested, this one has a fire-proof roof!!
