Hasegawa Old Mini (Job Log)

I plan to make all three at the same time. 

The bodyshells were sanded and dug deep into the panel lines, then washed with water.
It's 3 kits, so it takes a lot of time to wash. 

I cut all the parts from the gate, the volume is only this much, but the number of parts is by no means small. 

I think 3 units could fit in a Tamiya 1/24 car case. cute 😉 

Since masking is required, I sprayed Vallejo primer to ensure that the paint sticks well.
I'm going to paint the white surfacer anyway, so there's no need to be greedy for white now. 

The vehicles will be painted in white, red, and blue, respectively, so the interior point colors are different colors...

The awkward part of this kit is that the antenna is too thick for the scale.
So I decided to use only the root part and after removing the rod... 

Drill a hole with a 0.4mm pin vise and insert an insect pin to detailed-up it.
Drill a hole exactly in the middle, at the same angle as the root. These two things matter. 

Masking the 'interior color' area of the door... 

Vallejo 'Mecha Primer (Black)' was applied to areas where the paint should not peel off, and Gaianots Black Surfacer was applied to other parts.
Painting took about 2 hours and 30 minutes. 

The doors should be masked once more and painted with body color. 

Since I don't have anything to hold on to and paint on parts like the roof, I'm trying to work by attaching runners with instant adhesive on top of masking tape. 

The side mirrors of the white car were decided to be metallic.
Chrome color was painted over the previously painted gloss black primer.
There is a slight stain now, but a light wipe with a soft cloth should be fine. 

After painting the outer shell with white primer for a durable paint... 

I painted the white surfacer. 

Then I painted the gloss racing white and pure white.
The roof was painted all pure white. 

Blue and red cars need to have white stripes, so I masked them. 

And, I painted the body color. 

I used Tamiya's band-aid type masking tape, but it's easy to bend in a curve.
However, since it has been purchased for a long time, the adhesive strength has decreased, and the paint has permeated. 

Erased it with a toothpick and compound. 

The stripe on the white car is black, so it needs to be masked once more. 

Painted in my favorite color gunmetal.

I masked and painted the windshield, but I also painted the indoor bathtub, which I forgot to paint, black.
I masked the tail lamp and painted the other blinker parts in clear orange. 

The tail lamp needs to be masked once more and painted clear red. 

Side decals were applied to the body.
I thought it wouldn't be visible even if I put it on a white car, so I only stick it on the red and blue cars.

The bottom plate needs to be partially painted in silver, black, and steel colors, but I decided to airbrush only the silver and paint the rest with a brush. So, I masked only the part corresponding to silver. 

I painted silver, and of the two remaining pairs, one was painted silver and the other was metallic black. 

The wheels were coated with semi-gloss clear to control their gloss. 

It is the window frame that is the most difficult when modeling the old mini. 

I drew a cross section of the window frame, but if it were a real car, it would look like the left, and the convex part in the middle should be chrome molding.
In this kit, it is designed to express a wide panel line like the one on the right and attach a decal to it.

Theoretically, this is plausible, but in practice, it is not as easy as you think to attach it to the concave surface because of the transparent margin of the decal.

Even if it is well attached, it is difficult to make the line smooth, and the silver color of the decal is not enough to create a chrome feeling. 

So, I threw away the decals, and just filled with paint in the color of Vallejo Model Air Chrome shown in the picture... 

It is easy to erase the protruding parts with a dedicated thinner.
Because it is completely water-based, it does not mix with lacquer-based primer, so even if you rub it until it is completely erased, the base color will not be erased. 

I pick up the brush and while at it, I also painted all the parts to be painted.  

It's annoying, but the bottom panel was also partially painted.
When I painted the wiring of the blue car in steel color, it didn't show, so I skipped the other two cars.

I'm getting tired now. lol 

After the drying of the coated clear was finished, I sanded it. 

The decal has been erased due to excessive sandpapering. 

Since I didn't put the decal on the white car, I had one left, so I luckily restored it. 

Even though the decal is not thick, it seems to be grinding because it is attached to the convex side. So, after clear coating was applied only to the decal area, once it dried to some extent, the entire area was coated once more. 

Then I sanded and compounded again, but this time I think I grinded off the clear layer where only the white and red cars were visible.
If I do another clear coat, I thought the paint would be too thick, so I restored it by spraying only leveling thinner.

While the white and red bodies were drying, I polished the blue guy in good condition, and it came out pretty well. 

All polishing is done. 

Now, I have crossed all the big mountains. and Finally masking again... 

Paint the roof area black to complete the painting of body. 

The side windows should be painted silver. ㅡㅡ
I found out later, but I was painted on the inner side. Ha ha ha
Eh~ It's annoying so pass. 

I put ink lines differently for each color instead of black.
Dark gray for white car, dark brown for red car, black for blue car... 

This completes all coloring. 

Assembly started in earnest. 

First step interior assembly... 

Interior, underbody complete.
There are two dashboards, Mk.VII and Mk.i, and I used the dashboard for Mk.I.
In my opinion, the old dashboard has a much more modern design. 

The front and rear of the windshield are designed to be attached to the outside, and the left and right sides to be attached to the inside.
It is safe to use water-based adhesive for transparent parts, but it dries slowly, so it is better to attach them in advance and allow time for them to be firmly fixed.
PS: the side windshield must be pressed firmly until it clicks like a snap kit. 

Fender parts can be attached cleanly by applying only a small amount of adhesive(Tamiya Cement) and temporarily fixing them, then fill in resin-free adhesive(Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). 

I forgot my license plate decal. 

There is a small red square at the bottom of the tail lamp, and the manual says to attach a decal or paint it.
I used Hasegawa sheet. 

The paint wasn't that thick, but the tail lamp didn't go in just right.
With a nervous mind, I carefully scraped and shaved it to fit it.
If you are planning to make this kit, it is recommended to make it after adjusting the tail lamp in advance. 🙂 

Although it is omitted in the manual, it seems that the edge of the tail lamp should be painted black.
So, I picked up the brush once again. (It's annoying to wash the brush)
While painting, I also painted the back of the additional lamp that I had forgotten about. 

It fits perfectly 😉 

All of the front parts are attached.
There should be a decal in the middle of the mini emblem, but there is no mention in the manual.
Looking at the decal, there is a small round mini logo, so I will put it on last. 

The cup depth of the mirror parts was shallow, so I was worried that it would pop out when I attached the metal sticker, but fortunately it seems to be fine. 

All other small external parts were attached. 

12 tires in all. We're almost done...
If it hadn't ejected cleanly, I think I would have been annoyed to trim it. 

After combining the upper and lower panels of the car body, the wheels were fitted.
When combining the upper and lower body, the rear first be fitted and then the front must be fitted until a click is heard. 

I need to attach something like a tow hook under the front bumper, but one is missing.
I bent and cut some clothes needle to make them roughly the same. It won't look good anyway... 

Finally, attaching the antenna to the roof... 

It's finally complete.

Even with the bumper attached, all three fit into the Tamiya 1/24 case. 

They are going out for italian job~
