For battleship-enthusiasts, the Montana-class of planned US Navy battleships is one of the big "What-Ifs" of WW2. The 70.000t+ vessels armed with 4x3 of the 16in/50 Mk.7 (406mm) naval guns found on the Iowa were conceived as a heavier "standard" battleship companion to their faster relatives in the late 30s and early 40s. While experiences from the war and capacities needed to produce aircraft carriers led to the Montanas being put on hold and eventually cancelled in July 1943, it is always intriguing to imagine one or two of the vessels being completed and roaming the Pacific along the slightly smaller but faster Iowas.
Building the Montana has long been a goal of mine and I have the VeryFire 1/700 and the detail parts stocked for a while now, waiting to get the confidence (and a new display case) to start on it. The particular kit has markings for both Montana (BB-67) as well as Louisiana (BB-71).
