I'm not really 'starting' this one yet, but got the cab pieces together so I can better visualize what kind of different pinstriping would look.... and in glorious AMT style, there's a huge gap and the pieces don't fit well... oh well, glue it solid, fill it with putty, and smooth... You'll see some stuff on here, but my main project is still the HEMI Cuda

As I'm tempted to built my MAN, I'll follow this one VERY closely.

I'm not really.... I'm really bad at visualizing, so I just glued the cab together so I could have a good long time to figure out the design/pinstripe I want on it.... I'm crazy... but not batsh#t crazy Nathan 😄 😛 When the colors come in the mail for this truck, then I'll get down and dirty with this beast.

Alright... This project is officially lit with a GO!... 150 painted pieces. 93 chrome, and 82 clear, clear amber, and clear red pieces. People don't understand trucks are like putting together 2-3 cars in one project.

Didn't paint at all today, but I did make two cheap 36 inch display shelves with some extra plexiglass I have and a handful of stuff from the hardware store. I put them over my bedroom door for future projects as the 30 car display case I made a while back is almost all full, only 3 more cars to fill it! 😄 +1 for any Totoro fans? [img1] [img2]

Blue isn't White, nor is orange.
Oh wait, White is the brand of the truck?
Good looking paint job Chris 👍

Thanks Martin!! I'm nervous about masking on tamiya paint.... even if I let the piece sit for hours, tamiya tape (or any tape) leaves a nasty residue.
Brain food:
Consolidated Freightways entered into an agreement in 1951 to sell their trucks through the White Motor Company, of Cleveland, Ohio, and their dealer network in the US and Canada. This relationship endured for the next quarter century, and the co-branded "White Freightliner" cab-over-engine models (COE) became a familiar sight on highways across the continent. -Wikipedia

This is the first time I free-handed a design.... Simple orange stripe around.... I kept taking a ruler and made sure the stripe was 10mm wide all around... and an orange top... Painting orange tomorrow.

Stick the tape to the back of your hand first. Males it a bit less tacky and removes excess glue. Lass chance of peeling of the blue that way.
Keep it up young gun!

Hi Chris. I'm doing the same build, but the earlier Matchbox release. Not much flash on the kit, but you're right about the fitment of parts. The joint on the roof is notorious with truck builders! Hard to sand too, with all the detail up there. Got my paint on, then boshed it up applying stripes. So, I'm trying to save it, otherwise it's a stripdown to the plastic again. Just a tip for you. The stacks sag, so some of the guys fabricate supports in the form of an X. Good luck with the build bud

@Martin, I've tried that when you mentioned it before, it helped a little... I'll snag some pics when I unmask, if there's residue.

Great job Chris. I managed to get some more paint on mine today. Sadly, a little leaked through the tape, but it's a n easy fix. Final colour tomorrow.

The 3 tones for the paint job are done. Next is steel for the undercarriage part, then some odds and ends colors.... I'm still waiting for my Old Yellow (engine) and Old Rose (interior) colors from the mail... The snow reallllllly backed up USPS mail in my area. Those colors were supposed to be here last week.

I picked up a Wood and Leather set, made by Scalecolor, for the interior. I fancied trying something new. It's quite therapeutic, but the camera on my phone doesn't do the job any credit. Look out for the set, it's worth it ????

Poked along and finished any secondary colors that were needed, also threw on the decals for the truck. STILL waiting for the paints in the mail... I think I need to go down there and see if I can get my stuff, but I kind of don't want to because they are still back-logged and I don't want to be the jerk asking them to fish through all that. Oh well such is life.

Went to USPS... a line a mile long, all with the same inqury.. Where's my stuff... The dumb lady was only telling people "it's on the truck" without doing any research. So frustrating.

Chris, check your aircleaner in pic 21. Mine is more forward and it covers the oil cap. The pipe that goes from it, to the radiator might be too short now? Also, I'm not sure how that would affect the closing of the cab? Just a heads up bud.

@Martin... Yup 😄 @Bozz if push comes to shove and the engine doesn't sit right, I'll just take it off..... I played around with positioning, and this is where the piece wanted to stay. Thanks for the heads up.

Man that was a long step.... But it's starting to look like a truck! Next is interior, then windows and cab to chassis, then it's chrome for days and done 😄

Thanks 😄 This rig came with no color scheme of any sort. There was a picture of the engine on the box, that helped. Peter Hardy helped with what color schemes typically look like. I knew I wanted 3 tones... so I searched 80's pop culture (the era of the truck) and found the old MTV logo which has 3 colors that I liked. Then I made an excel spreadsheet with per piece color scheme (more typical of Revell, Tamiya etc). I think I nailed evenly spreading the colors so it doesn't look like color throw-up. [img1]

It's cool you think my spreadsheet method is cool, it definitely helped keep my sanity. I like order, a plan... helps keeps the nerves down 🙂 Anyways, the instructions were step > substep with named part (no color). In the spreadsheet, the columns are step >substep. Name. Base colors, then secondary colors and notes. If it has ---, then it's chrome/clear etc... and I didn't need to do anything with them. Here's what it looks like. [img1]

Thanks, guys! I overcame a few big hurdles with this truck. It was the first time I had to make my own color scheme. And the first time to make a design, even though it was a simple stripe with a chevron, it was even-width all around, and matched-up. 🙂

I've got a Scania R620 and a Volvo FH16 Globetrotter XL to build, both with waaaay more pieces then this and I can't wait to dig into them after a few cars... If your talking about the no color scheme and the designless design headaches, now that I've gone through it, and made my process for it, it scares me less, but don't expect real-like colors because I don't know car material colors for sh#t 😛 But I think the blue/orange/red of this one really pulled off well 😄
