In 1927 impressed by the S.5 and in need of modernization, the US Navy went to Supermarine for a new interceptor. Busy with their own projects they passed it on to British Klemm Aeroplane Company. This resulted in the BA Sea Swallow - which first saw action in 1936 - being somewhat of a hybrid.
