Arthur Bird's Armstrong Whitworth Whitley Mk.V
Relative's crashed WW2 Bomber

This is my first commissioned build. My father in law has asked me to make a model of the Armstrong Whitworth Whitley Mk. V his relative Sgt. A H Bird flew out of Linton-on-Ouse in WW2. He was either the radio operator or rear gunner of 58 Sqn. GE-O Z6644 when it was shot down over Osnabrook, Netherlands at 22:40 on the 7th of July 1941.
I am going to use the Airfix New Tool 1:72 MkV as the base and modify the Xtradecal 72231 set to get the main markings. The example in the set is GE Q so I am going to cut the Q decal to make an O with my scapel blade. I am also going to use the X72157 set to create the correct serial number for the plane.
I am going to try and mask the canopies myself but will probably end up investing in Eduard's CX420 mask set.
I intend to us Vallejo model air and Alclad's aqua gloss for the paint scheme. With Tamiya's pannel line colour and maybe UMP's chalk wash for weathering.
The story has really excited me and I cannot wait to get on with the project!

UPDATE Finished her off really upset about the fit on the nose turret Airfix ruins the model. It just does not sit properly. It says sand away the plastic, however, I am concerned it will damage it.
