The purpose of the texture is to represent some machining done to the big plates. It is documented that there were some manufacturing difficulties on those thick plates and it thus seems resonable to think that this would be present in potential later vehicles
basic paint layers have been applied using maskin putty. I now need to iron out some odd edges and add the Dunkelgelb-spots using a paintbrush... Highlights will likely be done using oil paints
As I had an issue with the flat varnish lifting off the surface around the decals (can´t safely point out a reason...) I added some beat up tarps on the turret... let´s just say they are remains of some anti-air camouflage or something
Finished! And presented on a fitting book I had in stash 🙂

In contrast to the "AA-Maus" previously released by Vespid, the Maus II is very much a real project. It intended to provide a new, more angular and thus likely simpler turret for the Maus. main armament remained the same in the form of one 128cm gun and one coaxial 75mm KwK which was however mounted above the larger weapon. It is being specualted that possible Maus II-configured tanks could have been produced from Hull No.8 onwards, as the previous hulls 1-7 had turret rings for the earlier turret, while hulls 8 onwards weren´t assembled and thus elligible for retooling...
Anyhow, the kit is the new 2021 offering from Vespid which I got a hold on at EME 2022. The boxart-vehicle looks really cool and I am thus planning to do this camouflage. Maybe I will add some hull number or name on the side (if I find some suitable details), as I´d like to think of possible further production Maus-tanks to be named (akin to WW1 tanks) or at least bearing their hull numbers as a result of being "special vehicles". And yes, I guess a 180ton chonker does qualify as "special" 🙂
