It's not a quick job, Jennifer, but it's possibly the most important part of the build. See what I mean about the primer showing up all the errors?

I also really like when an old kit is assembled with special care!

Thanks all for the encouraging comments. I wanted to see if a 50 year old kit could turn into something worthwhile, despite shortcomings like the lack of much interior. I think the worst thing about it will be the wide, shallow panel lines when it comes to putting panel liner on it. Some of the lines have almost vanished already.

I built the same kit a couple of years ago and had no issues with the decals, they'll probably be ok. Good luck John!

Alberto, the red centres of the roundels are misaligned and one of the serial numbers is damaged to the point of being see-through.

You are right John, I hadn't seen the photo of the decals. I was luckier with them, mine were in better shape:

I also had bad luck with the decals on my Hunter. In my case I had to make the control panel from scratch. Luckily I won't need those decals anymore:

John, You're doing a great job 👍

Cuajete, ouch! I hate it when that happens. I had that problem with this kit very many years ago.

Had to abandon the decalling entirely as they disintegrated on contact with water.

John, I understand your problem, especially if it involves a special decoration like that. I'm sorry for what happened.

Hi John, I realy like what you did with this oldie kit. It shows, one can still build beautiful models from those old kits if one takes a bit of time and effort. 👍

Thanks, Nicolas. It's far from perfect, but it is the first aircraft kit I've built since the early '80's.
