WHAT-IF ?? HMS X Class Submarine
1
July 1, 2021First step - join the 2 halves of the hull together.
Actually a very good fit - only needed one small dot of filler.
I held to 2 halves together with masking tape, then ran around the seam letting the Extra Thin Tamiya glue seep into the join. Very easy!2
July 1, 20217 parts make up each of these hatches, with the back of the hatches never seeing the light of day when installed! PE for the handle worked well.3
July 1, 2021These parts were marked to be painted Tamiya Gold - to bright!!
On the propeller I also tried to shape the flat blades a little, and covered the initial gold with Tamiya Bronze, but that was too dark, so I then settled for Tamiya Metallic Brown. much better!4
July 1, 2021Will leave these parts off the model until after spray painting the hull, etc. Finished off the 2 masts(??) with Tamiya Gunmetal.5
July 1, 2021Close up of the hull with the ladder(?) positioned horizontally, which I guess is where it stayed when submersed.6
July 1, 2021The bayonet mount permits the ladder(?) to be moved to the vertical position.7
July 1, 2021Close up of the elevator & rudder controls - I believe that these are rather inaccurate (the elevator controls should ONLY be on the starboard side), but I had to show off the detailed small assembly work here.8
July 1, 2021Close up of the bow, showing the joining of 3 "D-Shackles", ready for the mooring cable9
July 1, 2021The mooring cable runs up to this attachment point on the port side - although that's not displayed in the kit instructions.10
July 1, 2021Overall shot, ready for some SMS Jet Black, then the colour of my choice.....and on order......11
July 1, 2021Close up shot of the hatch in position12
July 1, 2021Close up of the elevator controls again13
July 1, 2021Rear view of elevator & rudder - the prop can slide in later, after painting.14
July 1, 2021A little bit of PE on either side15
July 1, 2021The long shot!!16
October 12, 20213 primer coats applied!!
